Derek Mazur

Derek Mazur is one of western Canada's most award-winning producers. Over the past thirty years, Derek has earned a reputation for excellence by producing and/or directing award-winning animation, television commercials, sponsored films, documentary and drama programs.

He is the award-winning producer of Lost in the Barrens (1991 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Special and two 1992 Geminis including Best Youth Program), as well as Curse of the Viking Grave and The Diviners.

More recently, Derek was studio executive for the documentary series Pioneer Quest: A Year in the Real West; the 13-part series Head Over Heels; and the documentary special End of Evolution, co-produced with the NFB. He has just completed directing and writing Jazzland with Ross Porter, a 39-episode series for Global/Cool TV on world jazz, as well as a half-hour documentary on the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company for The Sharing Circle.

Derek's previous NFB  credits also include serving as producer on many acclaimed shorts from Winnipeg's world-renowned animators.

While best known for his executive producing/producing skills, Derek is also well recognized within the film industry for his directing talent in the area of commercials, documentary, and special projects.  He has extensive experience in aerial helicopter filming having used multiple mount systems including Wescam, Tyler, Eagle and Circlevision platforms. 

Derek Mazur is the founder and former president of the Manitoba Motion Picture Industry Association and a former board member of the National Screen Institute, the Banff Television Foundation and the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association.  Apart from his many specific film and television awards, Derek was awarded a Manitoba Blizzard award for Outstanding Achievement and Canada's 125th  Anniversary Medal for Significant Contribution to Canadian Culture.
